Graveside inurnment service for both Marj and hrer husband, Wally will occur on March 25, at 11:30 a.m. at the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Marjorie Rohease Stowe was born to Harry Beecher Stowe and Gladys Martha (Peterson) Stowe in Webb on July 1, 1922. Marj played basketball for the Webb Spiderettes and was president of her senior class. She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College and graduated from Buena Vista College with her teaching certificate at age 18.

Marj taught elementary school in Bradgate, Hubbard and George before a teaching job brought her to Forest City in 1945. There she met her future husband, Wally Felland. Marj and Wally were married on June 5, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2016.

Marj and Wally built their life together in Forest City. They raised two daughters, Vicky and Sherry. Marj became an exceptional “stay-at-home” mom. As a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She also led a Girl Scout troop. Marj is remembered as a wonderful cook, pie baker, seamstress, costume maker and birthday party hostess. In 1959, Marj and Wally designed and built a playhouse in their backyard, which provided many years of fun for their daughters and later for their granddaughters.

Marj was an enthusiastic fan of Hawkeye basketball. She also enjoyed golfing with Wally and their friends. Wally and Marj owned and operated Wally’s Furniture in Forest City from 1977 until they retired in 1991. They were known throughout the Forest City community for their daily walks, always hand in hand. Together they baked dozens of loaves of cinnamon coffeecake and delivered them to friends who needed comfort and cheer. When Wally’s eyesight failed, Marj read novels and devotions aloud to him every day.

Marj was a beautiful, kind, patient and thoughtful lady who generously shared her gift of love with her husband, family and friends.

She is survived by her sister, Joanne Hanson of Hot Springs, Ark.; her daughters, Vicky Payseur of Ankeny and Sherry (Tim) Oliver of Guttenberg; and four granddaughters Allison (Jeff) Attoe of Deerfield, Wis., Emily (Bryan) Hughes of Norwalk, Margaret (JC) Fuller of Ogden, and Martha Payseur (Ryan Ogren) of Des Moines. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Daxton and Greyson Hughes and Adelyn and Lilyana Attoe, plus several nieces and nephews.

Marj was preceded in death by her husband, Wally (in November 2016) and her parents.
