Dorothy (Roth) Gloede, 85, of Oelwein passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, at her home.
Dorothy was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob P. and Anna (Stadler) Roth. She grew up in the Oelwein area, graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1949. She was united in marriage with Tom Gloede on April 14, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.
Dorothy dedicated her life to her husband, her family and her faith in God. Her family loved to travel, taking many trips every year—some long, some not so long. She enjoyed singing old songs with the family, their round table time, her Little Orphan Annie story to the children and her many great memories. She was the youngest daughter of twelve children and made sure everybody knew. Dorothy could dance all night if you let her. She was a great lady, loved by all, and will be missed dearly.
Left to celebrate Dorothy’s life are her children: Kathy (Leo) Reisner, of Potosi, Bobbi Jo (Roger) Polark, of Antioch, Ill., Becky (Gordon) Hackett, of Prairie du Chien, Tom (Donna) Gloede, Jr., of Oelwein, Lynn (Mike) Kane, of Blue Grass, Iowa, Sandy Steil, of Oelwein, Todd Gloede, of Oelwein, and Beth (Scott) Siebman, of Wilmot; twenty-eight grandchildren; fifty-eight great grandchildren; a sister Marie Kirby, of Des Moines; a sister-in-law Fran Recker; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom; daughter Judie Rogge; two sons-in-law, Bill Dudley and Dan Steil; twin grandsons, Matthew and Michael Steil; a great grandchild, Jared Reisner; five brothers: Joseph, Jake, John, James and Fr. Jacob “Paul” Roth; five sisters: Rose Mason, Pauline Roth, Ann Coselman, Til Hammond and Helen O’Loughlin.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein where there will be a Rosary Service at 2:45 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Fr. Dan Kirby, Fr. Jim Kirby and Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established.
