Daniel (Dopey) James Hallberg passed away after fighting a four year battle with colon cancer.

He was born on June 7, 1969, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., to parents Lynn and Cathi (Corlett) Hallberg. Dan was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Swede Ridge. He graduated from MarMac High School in McGregor, in 1987. Dan served in the Army from 1987 to 1991 Infantry Division in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Dan worked at Dillman Equipment (a division of Astec) for the past 12 years.

Dan loved his Iowa Hawkeyes and Dallas Cowboys and wouldn’t pass up a chance to play in a dart tournament. His sense of humor was a big part of getting his wife and family through the hard times. Dan was not defined by his illness, but by his positive attitude and bravery. He never gave up and was an inspiration to many.

Dan is survived by his wife, Sherrie, of McGregor; his children Blake Konichek, Kayla Hallberg, and Tyler Hallberg, all of Monona; his stepchildren Matt Jacobs, of Marquette, Jessica (Jordan) Thede, of Reinbeck, Jennifer (Dakota) Nicholas of Baggs, Wyom.; his grandchildren Dally, Tad and Ella; his parents Cathi Corlett (Denny Brooks), of Monona, and Lynn and Gay Hallberg, of McGregor; one sister Audra Hallberg (Mitch McShane), of McGregor; two brothers David (Wendy) Bacon, of St Charles, Minn., and Ryan (Anna) Bacon, of McGregor; nieces and nephew Tricia, Tristan, Taylor, Ruby (goddaughter) and Kylie; grandma Olga Corlett, of McGregor; godparents Janann and (the late) John Lang, of McGregor, and way too many uncles, aunts, and cousins to name and so many friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his sister Erin Hallberg.

A Celebration of Life will be held at MJ’s Bar & Grill in Monona, on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 4 p.m.
