Donald E. Bauer
Donald E. Bauer, 71, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, at the Prairie Maison Care Center.
He was born Feb. 13, 1945, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Donald and Nathalie (Markward) Bauer.
He was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School and went on to receive his B.S. Degree and later his M.S. Degree from UW-Platteville. He attained further graduate study from UW-Platteville, UW-La Crosse, UW-Madison, Winona State College and the University of Iowa. Don worked at UW-Platteville as an Assistant Director of student housing and an assistant track and cross country coach from 1967 to 1971.
From 1971 to 1997 he worked as a teacher, coach and administrator at Wauzeka High School. During that time Bauer served as Athletic Director for 26 years, being named the Wisconsin Athletic Director of the Year in 1996. During his time at Wauzeka, Bauer coached football, basketball, track and softball. His 1987 and 1993 softball teams made it to the state tournament. Bauer also served the school district as principal on three different occasions. He retired after the 1997 school year.
Don is survived by his cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
According to Don’s wishes there will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
