PdC grapplers beat MFL Mar Mac
On Thursday, Dec. 8, the Prairie du Chien Blackhawk wrestling team was host to MFL Mar Mac. Prairie du Chien won 38-33.
The evening started off with many special events. Parents and local sponsors were recognized and the winners were announced for the annual gun raffle.
Wrestling started off at 285#. After a scoreless first period, Jerrod Osterkamp was able to power in a half nelson to pin his opponent.
At 106#, PdC forfeited to MFL Mar Mac.
At 113#, Chase Watson scored a couple of solid takedowns before working for a single wing and securing the far wrist for major decision win.
At 120#, Reid Koenig was able to snake and score for a first period takedown, and get an escape and another takedown in period two before cranking up the offense with four takedowns in the third period to major decision his opponent.
Blake Garcia would secure another win at 126# with a first period single leg and decking his opponent in period two with a single wing/far wrist for the fall.
At 132#, Keenan Holley would wrestle a very tough match against a returning state qualifier, battling hard for the team in defeat.
Traeton Saint would then win at 138#. In period one, Saint would be up 5-0 after throwing his opponent and securing back points. In period two, he would use a single wing/far wrist for more back points before pinning his opponent in the third period.
At 145#, Tyler Smock lost a hard fought battle.
Nick Rogge, at 152#, won by scoring a single leg in the first period and then secured back points on two occasions to win by decision.
Magnus Golterman and Zach Swiggum would both lose by fall at 160# and 170#.
Ethan Swiggum at 182# would right the ship again by getting a first period fall.
At 195#, Stephen Ronnfeldt would go the distance for a decision by patiently scoring a couple of fireman’s carries for scores.
In the last match of the night, Colten Wall lost by fall.
The win puts the Blackhawks at 1-0 in the young dual season. The Blackhawk coaches and wrestlers would like to thank all of the parents, fans, and sponsors who were able to cheer them on.
The next grappling action for PdC will be at Belmont/Platteville on Thursday, Dec. 15 for a conference dual at Platteville. On Saturday, Dec. 17, the Blackhawks will travel to the Mount Horeb Invitational for a 9 a.m. start. Go Blackhawks!
