Lorimer Verdine Olson, 85, of Colesburg, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 23, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 24, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Colesburg.

Lorimer was born on Nov. 29, 1930, in St. Olaf, the son of Martin and Mabel (Nesteby) Olson.

Lorimer received his education locally and began his farming career at a very early age. On June 18, 1952, Lorimer was united in marriage with Judith Kickbush at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Lorimer was in the Air Force for four years after, which he farmed near Garnavillo for a few years before settling on the farm by Colesburg in February 1959. Lorimer and Judith enjoyed traveling around the United States as well as the following interesting places: Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. 

Lorimer was a master gardener and a member of Trees Forever. He helped to plant many trees around Colesburg. He was a member of the American Legion and the “F Troup.” Lorimer was an active volunteer in the community and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed golfing and had two holes in one over the years. He was able to enjoy going on an Honor Flight in September of 2013. In his later years, Lorimer enjoyed watching sports on TV and rooting for his Cubs!

Lorimer is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judith; three children, Lorrie Dean “Oly” (Rose) Olson of Colesburg, Julie (Lyle Bischof) Gilmore of Swisher and Kristine (Jay) Urdahl of Mason City; grandchildren, Jon (Kelly) Olson, Jill (Brad) Herman, Jared Olson, Justin (Joanna) Gilmore, Shannan (Mike) Fleming, Jason (Liz) Urdahl, Jacob Urdahl, Derrick Urdahl and Olivia Urdahl; great-grandchildren, Staci, Brandi and Luke Herman, Wyatt Olson, Emerson, Carter and Reese Fleming, James and Julia Gilmore and Scarlett Urdahl, and many other relatives and friends.

Lorimer was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Adella, Gladys and Eunice; brothers, Melvin and Joel in infancy.
