Prairie

takes SWC title

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawk soccer team captured the Southwest Wisconsin Conference title on Thursday night with a decisive 6-0 victory over River Valley.

It was the final regular season game with special recognition to the seniors.

The game started with all 11 seniors, Tanner Bollman, Jon Dyer, Jake Mara, Nathaniel Oehler, Chas Sagedahl, Jack Stoeffler, Wesley Schwager, Nathan Specht, Nolan Stram, Evan Tenor and Andrew Waller taking the field.

In a statement game before the start of the WIAA tournament series, the Hawks came out with control and focus.  Their first goal came with their signature set play in the 20th minute when Nathaniel Oehler delivered a perfect corner kick to a leaping Evan Tenor for the backside scoring header.

In the 28th minute, Chas Sagedahl fired a beautiful shot in for a second score, and in the 37th minute, Preston Hendrix slipped a pass through to Jack Stoeffler for the third and a 3-0 halftime lead.

After senior halftime introductions, recognitions and an indescribable dance routine by their mothers, the boys were ready to retake the field, and take it they did.

At the 70 minute mark, Jack Stoeffler lured the Valley defenders deep right along the goal line and then fired the perfect curve around the goalie and in.

In the 76th minute, Chas Sagedahl found an open Preston Hendrix who put it away for Prairie’s 5th goal.

Then in the 88th minute, Sagedahl fired another rocket from outside the 18-yard line.  The shot was placed perfectly in the top left corner and sealed the victory and the Southwest Wisconsin Conference Championship.

Wesley Schwager had another outstanding night in goal with 10 saves on the night, bringing his regular season total to 142.

The Hawks finished regular season play at 17-1-1 and 10-1-1 in conference. They have scored 78 times and held their opponents to only 16. They enter the WIAA D4 Sectional 3 seeding of 18 teams with the best record, highest winning percentage and lowest points per game given.

Prairie earned the number 3 seed. They will play the No. 11 Racine Lutheran Crusaders this Thursday at Bluff View at 4 p.m.

Thanks to all for the great support throughout the regular season. Go Hawks!
