Mary Janell Becwar, 94, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien.
She was born April 17, 1922 in Prairie du Chien the daughter of George and Josephine (Mezera) Wachuta. She married Albert Becwar on Nov. 21, 1945 at St. Gabriel’s church in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2005. Janell worked in the kitchen at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien for 17 years. She belonged to the Irish Ridge Homemakers Club and was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Parish. Janell loved everybody and was considered a special “grandma” to many. She enjoyed playing games and cards especially with her monthly card club.
She is survived by her children Ronald of Prairie du chien and Diane (Mark) Jensen of Kaysville, Utah; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law Julia Holmes and Florence Becwar. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Joseph and Clifford Wachuta; and a sister Dorothy Jelinek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Holy Family Parish. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
