James Hatlan
James Hatlan, 54, of Ferryville, died Tuesday, Aug. 9.
Jim was born on Feb. 14, 1962 to Archie and Evelyn (Lee) Hatlan. He was baptized and confirmed at the Hauge Lutheran Church. Jim graduated from Seneca High School. He was united in marriage to Tracy Brodhead and they had two kids and later divorced. After his divorce Jim met Barb Czarnik and they spent 20 years together.
Jim raised tobacco, worked at the Liberty Pole and Ferryville Cheese factories, Design Homes, and Nelson Global Products. He helped mow and maintained the grounds of the West Prairie-Hauge Cemetery for nearly 45 years. Jim loved participating in demo derbies while driving Unit 21, shooting pool, playing horseshoes, going deer hunting, and was a good lefse maker. He was a proud AA member for over 25 years. Jim was also proud to be a grandpa.
Jim is survived by his mother, Evelyn (David) Leirmo; two sons, Brian (Angel) Hatlan, and Jason (Shelley) Hatlan; four grandchildren Arthur, Braiden, Bentley and Makenzie; two brothers Arvid (Laurie) Hatlan, and Tim (Kim) Hatlan; longtime family friend, Bruce Ward and his family; as well as many nieces, nephews, and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie; grandparents; significant other of 20 years, Barb Czarnik; and several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Ferryville First Responders, the West Prairie-Hauge Cemetery Fund, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Pastor Jim Aniol will officiate with burial to follow in the West Prairie-Hauge Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Funeral Home.
