After more than 14 years of serving on the Clayton County Board of Supervisors, Larry Gibbs (D), Garnavillo, has decided that this will be his final term.  “After careful consideration, I have decided not to seek reelection to the Clayton County Board of Supervisors,” Gibbs said.  I feel a deep honor to have had the opportunity to serve the Clayton County taxpayers in this capacity.”

“I will always be proud of my involvement with all the positive accomplishments the board has been able to make during my tenure as supervisor,” he continued.   “I would say two highlights would be the new county sheriff and jail center, as well as the new administrative building.  Both county assets will serve our citizens proudly and economically for years to come.”

Gibbs does not see any large problems ahead for his successor.  “I was lucky to have worked with a great Board of Supervisors and dedicated group county employees,” he said. Employees that I know that serve with dedication everyday no matter what their job title and people who step up to make sure Clayton County is served in the best way possible.    I have always worked with others in a joint effort to best serve the taxpayers of Clayton County.  “It is never a one person show.  We work as a group, dedicated to protect the taxpayer and to use their resources wisely.”

Gibbs also had some advice for the next person to fill his position.  “Make sure your decisions are not based on your own personal agenda but always based on the needs of the people you serve” he said.  “Remember that the tax money they have provided to our county works for majority of the citizens, not just those who are operating with a small personal agenda.  We need to always be on the lookout for more income opportunities for our county, more diversification of funding, this only makes us stronger as a county.  It keeps taxes down and allows us to serve our citizens better.”

“I feel I am leaving our county Board of Supervisors on a high note with many positive projects yet to complete in our county’s future,” he added.
