at Monroe Invite
The PdC-WS grapplers traveled to Monroe on Saturday, Jan. 23 for the Monroe 11-Team Invitational. As a team, the Blackhawks finished second with 183.5 points, just behind the 193 points scored by host Monroe.
The Blackhawks wrestled very well, putting five individuals in the finals. Reid Koenig, Clayton Beers, Nick Rogge, and Peyton Hall were crowned champions.
At 106#, Koenig had a bye in round one as the number one seed. In the quarterfinals, he recorded an 18-1 technical fall over Gillen (Belmont/Platteville). In the finals he major decisioned Gamble (White) 9-0.
At 126#, Beers would open with a fall over Sargent (Belmont/Platteville) in :40 seconds. In the quarterfinals Beers would major decision Curtis-Dupuis (Beloit Memorial) 10-1. In the finals Beers would pin Ubersox (Darlington/Blackhawk) in 3:02.
At 132#, Rogge had a bye in round one as the number one seed. In the quarterfinals Rogge would defeat Fernandez (Whitewater) with an 8-2 decision. In the finals, he would decision Murray (Monroe) 6-0.
At 195#, Hall pinned Wynstra (Clinton) in :58 to advance to the quarterfinals where he would major decision Johnson (Beloit Memorial) 11-2. In the finals he would wrestle ranked Arneson (Monroe), an opponent who upended Hall earlier in the year at the Bi-State Classic. Hall was able to redeem himself with a 3-1 decision for the championship.
Stephen Ronnfeldt also advanced to the finals at 182#, but came up just short.
PdC-WS will travel to River Valley for a conference dual on Thursday, Jan. 28 with a 7 p.m. start time.
