PdC-WS grapplers win over Dodgeville on Senior Night
On Tuesday, Jan. 12, Prairie du Chien played host for a conference dual against a strong Dodgeville team. It was also Senior Night.
Coach Jason Thiry took a few minutes before the meet to honor and recognize the seniors for all of their time and dedication to the great sport of wrestling. Senior wrestlers are Clayton Beers, Peyton Hall, Brendan Fleshner, and Tyler Cota. Senior managers are Kelsey Hebel and Vanessa Wright.
The meet started at 138# where Recob from Dodgeville was able to get a pin against Tyler Cota. At 145#, Tyler Smock would get the Blackhawks on the board with a 6-4 decision. In the match, Smock was able to hit a couple of reversals that would prove to be the difference. Dodgeville would then go on to win the next three matches; a major decision and two falls to put them up 22-3. The Blackhawks stopped the bleeding when Stephen Ronnfeldt pinned his opponent by using a firemen’s carry and immediately turning his opponent. Peyton Hall would receive a forfeit to make the score 22-15 in favor of Dodgeville, who would then rattle of a couple of falls in a row, one of them by defending State Champion Brady Wetter at 220# to make the score 34-15. PdC would then start a string of five wins in a row. At 106#, Reid Koenig would pin his opponent in the first period. Chase Watson received a forfeit at 113#. Blake Garcia would pin his opponent before Clayton Beers received a forfeit at 126#. At 132#, Nick Rogge would win a major decision to make the final score 43-34 for a Blackhawks’ win.
The Blackhawks improved to 3-0 in the conference and 13-2 overall.
PdC/WS will host Belmont/Platteville at 7 p.m. on Thursday, which is Alumni Night. On Saturday, PdC travels to Monroe for an invitational with a start time of 9:30.
