Carolyn (Klinkenberg) Berns, 76, of Saint Olaf, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Visitation was before services at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 9, at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher.

Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery, Garnavillo.

Carolyn was born on Oct. 2, 1939, on the home farm in rural Saint Olaf, the daughter of Alvin and Mabel (Hakert) Klinkenberg.

Carolyn was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in Elkader and graduated from the Elkader High School. Carolyn furthered her education after high school and became a registered nurse and worked for various organizations in this area. On Oct. 24, 1961, Carolyn was united in marriage with Donald Berns at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo and was later blessed with two children. 

Carolyn was an avid baker and was known to generously give homemade cakes to her neighbors and friends. She truly enjoyed quilting and working with crafts and even managed to get in a little woodworking as well. 

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Donald; two children, Lee Berns of Garnavillo and Dee (John) Hense of Strawberry Point; four grandchildren, Matthew Hense, NaTasha, Dustin and Dalton Berns; one sister, Mildred Kelly and many other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Henry Klinkenberg.
