Francis Gene Ottaway, 75, of McGregor, Iowa died Thursday, Aug. 6, at Crossing River Health in Prairie du Chien. 

He was born on July 19, 1940 in Sabula, Iowa the son of Eugene Harold and Edith Geneva (McMahon) Ottaway. 

Francis graduated from Mar/Mac High School. He was united in marriage to Jean C. Walleser on Aug. 13, 1982 in Postville, Iowa. Francis was a farmer and he worked with the railroad where he was a section worker, crane operator, section foreman, extra gang foreman and a Federal Track Inspector. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, tinkering with machinery and a good political conversation. 

Francis is survived by his wife, Jean of McGregor; five children, Eugene (Mary) Ottaway of McGregor, Iowa, James Ottaway of Dodgeville, Iowa, Robert (Phyllis) Ottaway of Waterville, Iowa, Andrew Ottaway of Prairie du Chien, and Anna (Ryan) Bacon of McGregor, Iowa; loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia (Ed) Schlueter of Rockford, Ill.; one brother-in-law, Earl Miller of Faribault.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Edith Ottaway and two sisters, Phillis Miller and Geneva (Fred) Burkhart and other loving relatives and friends. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass on Tuesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa.

Private family burial will be held at a later date.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.
