Mae A. Sprosty, 93, died Sunday, June 21, at Crest Health Care Center, Ridgecrest Village, Davenport, Iowa.

Mae Agnes Fisher was born May 16, 1922 in Eastman, the daughter of Thomas J. and Anna (Wagner) Fisher. She was united in marriage to Leonard W. Sprosty on June 15, 1943 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman. They had shared over 60 years of marriage prior to Leonard’s death June 2, 2004. 

Mrs. Sprosty had been an educator for over 45 years. She taught for 11 years in the Prairie du Chien area before relocating to Iowa in 1953. She then taught in the North Scott School District for 34 years, retiring in 1987 from Edward White Elementary. She and her husband previously farmed in the Eastman area. 

Mae was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, DARSPA Davenport Area Retired School Personnel Association, and North Scott Retired Teachers Association. She and Leonard were avid square dancers and belonged to numerous square dance clubs, and camping clubs, locally and nationally. Mae and Leonard enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the U.S and Canada with their square dance friends. 

Mae was especially proud of her children and their families and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Memorials can be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, or to a memorial relating to square dancing that will be established in her and Leonard’s names.

Mae’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and nurses of Genesis Hospice, Ridgecrest/Crest Health Care Center, especially the Station 1 nursing staff.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Deanna Sprosty, Bettendorf, Douglas Sprosty, Davenport, and Donald and Natalie Sprosty, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Michael Sprosty, Christopher Sprosty and Dr. Michele Sprosty, USN, and Roman and Andrey Sprosty; a great-grandson, Jacob Sprosty, and a sister, Muriel Newman, Green Bay.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial were held Tuesday, June 23, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 N. Fillmore Street, Davenport. 

Graveside services and a visitation will be held in Eastman, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Tuesday, July 14. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until the service time at noon. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Eastman.
