Although it’s not the Iron Throne of Westeros, this porcelain throne, belonging to the Prairie du Chien School District’s Relay for Life team, moves around quite a bit. (Photo by Caitlin Bittner)

In the game of thrones in Prairie du Chien, the prize is a purple porcelain throne in the name of the Prairie du Chien School District’s Relay for Life team.

It all started with a brand new toilet and a can of purple spray paint, said a representative of the team. Now, bearing a sign that says “Flushing out cancer,” the purple throne is being passed around multiple area yards in order to help raise funds for the Great River Relay for Life in August.

So far, the toilet has been taken to locations all over the city, including businesses like Jim’s Bar. “They all had a good time with it at the bar. It stays in one place for 24 hours and then we move it to a new location after dark,” said the representative.

“The faculty have really kept it going. If it gets slow, they can always come up with someone they’d like to send it to like principals and teachers,” explained the representative.

If the toilet happens to show up on your lawn, it can easily be gotten rid of. “We’ve been charging $5 to remove it from the yards, $10 to move it to someone else’s lawn, and $15 for toilet insurance,” stated the representative, noting that the toilet insurance keeps your lawn toilet-free.

The team hopes to run the fundraising initiative through the summer, so keep your eyes peeled if you want to participate.
