Platteville-Lancaster

blanks Prairie du Chien soccer

On Thursday, May 28, the Prairie du Chien girls soccer team celebrated Senior Night. The game was against Platteville/Lancaster with a final score of 5-0.

It was a beautiful evening for a game. In the first half, goalkeeper Mallory Fulcher had 12 saves to end the half at 3-0.

In the second half, the team held Platteville to 2 goals and Fulcher had 32 saves for a total of 44 on the night.

Defensively, the team was led by Tajah Eades with 5 stops/steals followed by Courtney Pattison, Anel Lamarid, Payton Davidson, and Taylor Hendrickson. Davidson had a great game with beautiful pull backs to beat the other team as she stole the ball to clear back up to her team. Hendrickson also did a great job when she stepped up to play defensive midfielder for portions of the game to protect the middle with Sadie Tieman. On corner kicks, Prairie did a great job clearing the ball out of the box. The team has really done a great job all year and continued to do so as they held strong against the many corners during the game.

Offensively, the team was led by Pattison with 3 shots followed by Brooke Boone and Hendrickson. Megan Johnson, Vrushti Shaw, and Jesse Gutknecht also had incredible games with great drives forward and persistence to get the ball back. The team really held their own as they once again had enough girls to have substitutions with the return of Stephanie Olson and Laura Letcher who really stepped up.

A thank you went out to the seniors who have had a wonderful year. Although the team may not have had the greatest record they never once gave up and continued to work hard and stay positive the entire season. All of their hard work is greatly appreciated. It has been incredible to see the improvements the team has made this season!

Another memorable moment of the evening was a memorial balloon release led by Payton Davidson to honor the passing of former teammate Bridget Achenbach. The participants shared their fondest memories of Bridget prior to the release to remember her with joy and a smile on their faces. The opposing team also honored Bridget by bringing carnations to pass around in memorial. The thoughts and prayers of the team are with her family and friends in this time of grief.

Prairie’s regional game will be on June 4 at Columbus High School at 6 p.m.
