Dinah “Diane” Benhart, 74, of Oelwein, Iowa, passed Sunday morning, April 5, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Dinah Diane Ames was born June 3, 1940 at Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Austin D. and Helen (Huffman) Ames. In 1958, she graduated from Mar Mac High School in Marquette, Iowa. On April 18, 1959, she was united in marriage to Henry Frank Benhart in McGregor. Diane was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. She enjoyed trips to the casino, vacationing with her sisters, camping, fishing, knitting, crocheting and taking pictures of her grandchildren. 

Diane is survived by her husband, Henry Benhart of Oelwein; three children, Ricky Benhart, Rodney (Laurie) Benhart and Robin (Chuck) McQueen all of Oelwein; four grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla) McQueen, Dakota (Anna Schulz) Benhart, Russell (Kayci Edler) Benhart and Jordan McQueen; seven siblings, Audrey Bennett of Independence, Darlene Moon of Monona, Clayton (Deloris) Ames of Janesville, Bonnie Hines of Prairie du Chien, David (Judeen) Ames of Janesville, Marilyn (Bob) Havlik of Cedar Rapids and Meredith (Gary) Gentes of Prairie du Chien; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Curtis Ames and a sister, Donna Protsman.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.

The family requests that those attending the services wear casual, colorful attire in memory of Diane.
