City, True Value complete deal for new hardware store

Gathering to make the new Nelson True Value deal official were Duane Rogers, of the Redevelopment Authority; Jacob Kanis, Nelson True Value; City Administrator Aaron Kramer, and Dan Kanis, Nelson True Value.
The city of Prairie du Chien and Nelson Agri-Center, LLC, officially signed a developer’s agreement and land sale agreement, which will result in a new Nelson True Value hardware store being constructed in the Block 43 site, north of Walgreens, this year. Work on the site will commence as soon as next week, with a targeted completion date of Nov. 1.
“This is a glorious day for Prairie du Chien, especially the downtown and the Marquette Road corridor,” City Administrator Aaron Kramer said. “This area of Prairie du Chien has certainly seen a series of very positive and encouraging economic developments, from the Ashley Furniture project to this event and so many others to the new road. This has been a long and, at times frustrating, journey, but there was a noticeable amount of happiness at [Friday’s] signing at the Title Company. The bottom line is we will see a brand new, modern store continuing to anchor our downtown and we have saved the current jobs at Nelson True Value.
“I can’t express enough thanks to Dan Kanis and Jacob Kanis (Nelson True Value), the Kanis’ legal team and associates, the Redevelopment Authority, City Planner Garth Frable, City Attorney Tom Peterson, Mayor Dave Hemmer, and the Common Council for making this project happen.”
