Ilaverne A. Breitsprecher, 89, of Onalaska, WI and formerly of Merrill, WI, died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

She was born August 12, 1925, in Froelich, IA to Arthur and Anna (Hamann) Seeland. Ila attended and graduated from Monona High School, Monona, IA. She then attended business college in Davenport, IA, graduating with an associate’s degree.  On April 12, 1951, Ila married Lloyd Breitsprecher in Monona, IA, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage this last April. On September 9, 2014, Lloyd preceded Ila in death.  

In addition to being a homemaker, Ila worked in accounting for Wisconsin Cheeseman in Sun Prairie, WI, and Graebel Moving and Storage in Wausau, WI.

She loved fishing and shared her love for the sport with her family. Ila also had a love for gardening and like her mother, she had a “green thumb.” 

During her time in Wausau, Ila was a member of the homemakers club where she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her friends. Her lifetime passion was creating ceramics and she had her own kiln and made most of her own seasonal decorations.

Survivors include three sons, Jan (Marilyn O’Connor) Breitsprecher of Monoa, WI, Craig Breitsprecher of Onalaska, WI and Terry Breitsprecher of Hatley, WI.; two grandchildren, Tracey (Shane) Ferguson of Chatfield, MN, and Trisha Breitsprecher of Stewartville, MN; six great-grandchildren, Brodey, Sulley, Paycey, and Joesey Ferguson, William Onstad, and Madelyne Boysen; two sisters, Imogene (LaVern) Meyer of Monona, IA, and Patricia Cooper of Prairie du Chien, WI; two sisters-in-law, Helen Breitsprecher of Hazleton, IA, and Pat Breitsprecher of Elkader, IA; and four nieces and one nephew.

In addition to her husband, Ilaverne was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers-in-law, John Cooper, Harold Breitsprecher, and Kenneth Breitsprecher.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 401 S. Egbert St., Monona, IA. Pastor Erika Kielstrup will officiate. Burial will follow in the Monona Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Wednesday at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Woodruff Chapel), 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse, and from 12 noon until the time of service Thursday at the church.
