MFL MarMac Elementary students and staff prepared for Kindness Week, held Feb. 9-13, by dressing up in red and pink and posing in the shape of a heart. During Kindness Week, students are encouraged to complete 50 kindness acts. They will also participate in other kindness activities, as well as the Pennies for Patients program. Students in the MFL MarMac Monona Elementary Center will celebrate Kindness Week for the first time from Feb. 9 to 13.

The Great Kindness Challenge is a program to promote a better school climate that involves all students. The students are challenged to complete 50 kindness acts that can be accomplished any time and anywhere during the week. Set to coincide with the week of Valentine’s Day, Kindness Week activities include the opening week for Pennies for Patients, a program to collect money in support of the Iowa Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Pennies for Patients drive will continue for another week, concluding on Feb. 20. Freedom Bank in Monona has once again offered its support by counting all donations. All activities are encouraged to promote a place where students deserve to learn in a safe and friendly environment that encourages acceptance, tolerance, unity and respect. Everyone also hopes to promote the “Safe, Respectful and Responsible” theme of the school.

Students will be provided with a checklist of over 50 kindness challenges. They may work individually, in small groups or as a class to complete 50 items on the checklist. There will be a number of other activities for student participation. These include:

Monday, Feb. 9—Kindness-themed classroom door decorating contest.

Tuesday, Feb. 10—Dreaming of being kind. (Pajama Day).

Wednesday, Feb. 11—Team Kindness Day (Bulldog or sports team attire).

Thursday, Feb. 12—Ride the Kindness Wave—Summer in February (beach/surf/tropical attire).

Friday, Feb. 13—Spread Kindness Around the World (Wear clothes highlighting geography).
