Shirley E. Ellis

Shirley E. Ellis, 78, of Patch Grove, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born on April 12, 1941, the daughter of Roy and Edna (Jarms) Haberichter. She, her father, and her grandmother, were all born in the same farmhouse located southeast of Monona, Iowa. Shirley spent her early childhood in Clayton County, Iowa, moved to the Patch Grove area in 1952, and graduated from Patch Grove High School in 1958. She married Jerry Ellis on Oct. 24, 1959, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley. Shirley and Jerry raised their family in the home that he built in 1960. Shirley was the Patch Grove Village Clerk for 18 years, and secretary/treasurer for the Patch Grove Fire Department for 31 years. Shirley enjoyed time spent with her family, reading, sewing, gardening, and dancing with Jerry.

Shirley Jean Guyer, 79, of Luana, Iowa, passed Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020. She was born Sept. 29, 1940. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Elkader, Iowa. Visitation will be Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the hall.

Shirley M. Gelbach

Shirley M. Gelbach, 87, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at the Orchard Manor Care Center in Lancaster.  

She was born April 19, 1932, in Lancaster, the daughter of Parke and Lillian (Cox) Gelbach Sr.  

Shirley worked at the Opportunity Center in Prairie du Chien for over 36 years. 

She is survived by nephews, Greg and Randy Gelbach; a niece, Sheri Breuer; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and her dear friends, Mary and Ken Stoeffler.

Nancy Gail Ahrens

Nancy Gail Ahrens, 76, passed away at Crossing Rivers Health medical center in Prairie du Chien, surrounded by her family on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020. 

She was born on Sept. 11, 1943, in Platteville, to Don and Bette Knapp. 

She grew up in Prairie du Chien, where, as a child, she had a love for horses and dreamt of being a cowgirl. She owned a horse named Bill, a.k.a. “Knothead Bill.” In high school, she was the drum majorette for the high school band. She could twirl that baton like no other. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1961.

Patricia A. Prochaska

Patricia A. Prochaska, 76, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at the Divine Rehabilitation Center in Fennimore. 

She was born Nov. 19, 1943, in San Pedro, Calif., the daughter of Ambrose and Eleanor (Wilkins) Gleason. 

Patricia was married to Lawrence Prochaska, and they later divorced. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Good Samaritan and later for the Prairie Convalescent Center. Patricia also assisted in the daily operation of the Pine Tree Inn with her partner Chester Barr.

Herman G. Sime

Herman G. Sime, 92, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Ferryville, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020.

Herman was born Nov. 1, 1927, to Herman Sr. and Grace (Helgerson) Sime. After the sixth grade, he stayed home to work on the family farm. He farmed pretty much his whole life, both before and after serving his country in the United States Army. He married Alice Kapanke and together they raised six children. Alice passed away Feb 8, 1971.

Robert J. Heilmann

Robert J. Heilmann, 89, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2020, at the Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse.

He was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Fennimore, the son of Albert and Elizabeth (Stivarius) Heilmann. 

Robert worked for Voth Oil, Balk’s Sunoco and Harold DuCharme’s DX Station in Prairie du Chien. He later retired after working for many years for the city of Prairie du Chien. 

He is survived by his sons, Chuck (Linda), Terry (Donna) and Doug (Vicki) Heilmann; his sister, Dorothy Trameri; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Fredrick “Fred” Roger Skrade, 92, of Rockford, Ill., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020. 

He was born March 8, 1927, in Eastman, the son of Edwin and Edith (Bonney) Skrade.

Jacquelyn Lamb

Jacquelyn June Lamb, 93, of Farmersburg, passed away in her home on Jan. 6, 2020.  

Jackie was born Jan. 10, 1926, to Fred and Olga (Becker) Ferguson.

She attended Pleasant Ridge School and graduated from McGregor High School in 1943. She went to Chicago to work, and met and married Kenneth Lamb in April of 1947. They lived in Chicago until 1950 when they moved back to the McGregor-Marquette area. In 1956, she began working at Effigy Mounds National Monument, retiring in 1986. Jackie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She served as the president and sang in the choir. She was also a member of Pocket City American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years. She loved to knit for everyone. She and Kenny especially enjoyed their retirement years camping in Texas.
