Arnold R. Neises

Arnold R. Neises, 86, of Monroe, died Tuesday, May 29, at New Glarus Nursing Home. 

He was born on May 22, 1932, in Kenosha, the son of Sylvester and Josephine (Berntgen) Neises. He graduated from May D. Bradford High School in Kenosha. Arnold married Dorothy R. Aiello on Jan. 7, 1956, in Kenosha. He worked at Moore Business Forms for 19 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Victors Catholic Church; and enjoyed golfing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Monroe; six children, Laura Short, of Monroe, Steven (Barbara) Neises, of Arlington, S.D., Robert (Lori) Neises, of Waconia, Minn., Jayne (David Brunkow ) Neises, of Machesney Park, Ill., Theresa (James) Talbert, of Janesville, Jeffery (Susan Engler) Neises, of Monroe; four grandchildren, Christine (Ryan), Jaclyn, Jarred and Jeremy; one step-grandchild, Brett; and two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Neises, of Kenosha.

Shirley Davis

Shirley Davis, 82, of Guttenberg, Iowa, died Monday, June 11, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.

Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. 1st St, Guttenberg, IA.

Betty Chase

Betty Chase, 79, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018. 

She was born Sept. 17, 1938, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Hawley and Hazel (Fransham) Steggall. Betty attended and graduated from the Fairbank High School in 1957. She married Ray Chase on May 9, 1970, at the Schuyler County Court House in Missouri. Betty and Ray lived in Fairbank until 2002, when the moved to Prairie du Chien to enjoy retirement. Before moving Betty worked in the repair department as an operator for Northwestern Bell for 20 years. She loved spending time with Ray, going fishing, going on long drives to see the country, listening to country music, going to antique stores and spending time with family and friends.

Peter Charles Klema

Peter Charles Klema left us unexpectedly and much too soon, at the age of 54, on June 8, at home with his mother at his side.

Peter was born Dec. 25, 1963, to parents Michael and Edith (Zeeh) Klema of rural Wauzeka and what a wonderful Christmas present he was! He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1982. He then continued his education and attended Fennimore Vocational School.

He was currently working the last 16 years at EMC in Fennimore. He enjoyed auctions, fishing, riding his Harley, watching NASCAR and Packers, and just spending time with his family and friends.

Pete is survived by his mother, Edith Klema; a family of brothers, Kim (Cinda), Wauzeka, Edward (Deb), Wauzeka, and James, Gainsville, Fla. He is also survived by a daughter, Amber Houston, Dearborn Heights, Mich.; sister-in-law Michelle Klema, Prairie du Chien; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

John L. Jones

John L. Jones, 92, died Sunday, May 27, at his home in Prairie du Chien.

John was born Aug. 5, 1925, in Hannibal, to William C. and Alta (Lemke) Jones. He attended several schools around Wisconsin, and graduated from Wauzeka High School. 

John served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. During WWII, he served as a tank driver in central Europe and the occupation of Germany. John married Viola Ready on Nov. 22, 1949, and they had six children. 

He worked as a logger and lumber inspector for the same company—Hutchison Log & Lumber Company, purchased by Erickson Hardwoods, then by Weyerhaeuser Company—until he retired. In retirement he worked for Nelson Lumber, which had purchased Weyerhaeuser.

Karen K. Burgus

Karen K. Burgus, 64, of Wauzeka, passed away Wednesday, May 16.

A celebration of Karen’s life and service will to be held Monday, June 25, in Wauzeka at the meeting hall in Century Hall. A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., with a service to follow.

Mary JoAnne Carl

Mary JoAnne Carl, 77, of La Crosse, lost her battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease on May 29.

She was born Feb. 2, 1941, in Prairie du Chien, to Marlowe and Ann (Richter) Waller.  She grew up in Prairie du Chien and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1958. On Nov. 7, 1959, she married Melvyn F. Carl. They promptly started a family and moved to La Crosse.

Mary Jo was a phenomenal woman. She was admired for her ambitiousness and her ability to create beautiful things. Examples of her artistic flare in the form of ceramics, restored furniture, sewing and quilting projects, scrumptious deserts and holiday decorations, could always be found throughout her home she somehow found time to keep spotless.

Matthew G. Harris

Matthew G. Harris, 52, of Bagley, and formerly Garnavillo, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 1, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital due to stage four metastatic colon cancer. 

He was born Aug. 30, 1965, in Racine, the son of John and Martha (Salisbury) Harris. He married Michelle Adams on Sept. 7, 1996, at Pike’s Peak State Park in McGregor, Iowa. Matthew enjoyed faming and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved participating in Mini Rod Pulling. 

He is survived by his wife Michelle, of Bagley; his children, Nathan Bode, of Cuba City, Darien (Natalie) Adams, of Millville, Iowa, and Nicole (Daniel) Bohr, of Spillville, Iowa; his sister-in-law Debbie Harris, of Oaktown, Ill.; his grandchildren, Lyle Spiker, Piper Adams, Evan Harris, Vivian and Donovon Bohr. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Cyndy Harris-Bohringer; a brother John Harris Jr.; and his stepfather James Mitsch.

Catherine A. “Cathie” McGuire

 

Catherine A. “Cathie” McGuire, 60, of McGregor, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 29, at her home following a brief illness. 

 

She was born Sept. 26, 1957, in Marietta, Ga., the daughter of Joseph and Cecelia (Goltz) McGuire. Cathie had recently worked as a caregiver for Scenic Acres in Elkader, Iowa.

Charles Albert Walker

 

Charles Albert Walker, 70, of Eastman, died Monday, May 28, at his home in Eastman. 

 

Charles was born May 31, 1947, to Charles and Anna (Mara) Walker in Prairie du Chien. He attended Wauzeka High School. Charles proudly joined and served in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam.
