Mathias D. 'Matt' Schauf

Mathias D. “Matt” Schauf, 87, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. 

He was born March 3, 1932, in Sparta, the son of Leo and Mildred (Bowler) Schauf. 

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-55 during the Korean Conflict. Matt was united in marriage with Irene Johnson and together they raised five children. 

He is survived by his wife Irene of Prairie du Chien; his children Steve (Patti), Sandi (Dick) Wachter both of Prairie du Chien, Denise (Carl) Shedivy of La Crosse, WI, Patty Schauf-Yager and Pam (Brad) Kiesau both of Prairie du Chien; his sister Alice Farley of Milwaukee, WI; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Paul O. White

Paul O. White, 88, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor.

He was born April 22, 1931, in Prairie du Chien, the son of James and Mae (Kramer) White. 

Paul served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He married Helen Ingram on April 12, 1958, in Chicago, Ill. Paul owned and operated White Insurance Agency in Prairie du Chien for over 55 years.  He was an active member of the Eagles Club Aerie 1502 in Prairie du Chien.  

Sadly, Helen preceded him in death on May 24, 2019.

Delores J. Falls

Delores J. Falls, 84, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Prairie Maison Care Center in Prairie du Chien. 

She was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Rushford, Minn., the daughter of Oscar and Bernice (Lukkason) Evenson. 

She married Gerald “Jerry” Falls on Aug 18, 1957. Sadly Jerry preceded her in death on May 23, 2019. Delores worked for the law office of Peterson, Antoine and Peterson and later for St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien. She loved country music and entering contests. She once won an all expense paid trip to Belize. She was a longtime member of the Eagles Club Aerie 1502.

James Horkheimer

James Horkheimer, 76, of Prairie du Chien, died Monday, June 10, 2019, at the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care, Viroqua. 

James Allen was born on June 25, 1942 to Donald and Alva (May) Horkheimer in Prairie du Chien. 

He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School. James worked construction for several companies in California and Milwaukee. He enjoyed playing pool and boxing.

James is survived by his two children, Laura (David) Peck of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Vincent (Sophie) Horkheimer of Oakley, Calif.; five grandchildren, Noel Peck, Alexander Peck, Olivia Peck, Madeline Peck and Victoria Horkheimer; and three sisters, Gloria Horkheimer of West Salem, Rita Horkheimer of Prairie du Chien, and Bonnie (Ronald) La Pointe of Prairie du Chien.

Ruth L. Brus

Ruth L. Brus, 91, of McGregor, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15, 2019, surrounded by her family. 

She was born July 28, 1927, in Dubuque, the daughter of Rudolph and Grace (Thielen) Wagner. Ruth married Don Brus on April 26, 1947 at Nativity Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Ruth was locally known for her beautiful paintings, her deep faith, generous spirit and witty personality. Ruth and Don owned The Snowbird Shop in McGregor and did custom framing until their mid 70s. Ruth painted well into her 80s and donated many paintings to the St. John's bazaar. Ruth was very proud of the banners and altar frontals that she and Don created that are still in use today.

Don preceded her in death on Sept 12, 2012.

Inez G. Hoeger, 94, of Garnavillo, Iowa, died peacefully on Sunday June 2, 2019, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home, Prairie du Chien. 

Inez was born on May 13, 1925, the daughter of Otto and Clara (Hermsen) Brunsman.

Essie V. Kittoe

Essie V. Kittoe, 96, of Bagley, formerly of Cuba City, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, UT. 

Essie was born on Nov. 18, 1922, to Harry and Ida (Wick) Segerstrom in Alma. 

She married James W. Kittoe on Feb. 12, 1942, in Hazel Green. Jim and Essie lived in Cuba City and the Platteville area until they moved to Bagley. Essie enjoyed collecting bells and pig figurines, was an avid card player, especially with her friends on ‘Ladies Day,’ scratch off lotto tickets and trips to the casino. She was a big Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan, loved trips in the motorhome to Arizona, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marie A. Jenson

Marie A. Jenson, of Monona, and formerly of McGregor, Iowa, died Friday, May 31, 2019, at her son’s residence in Monona.

Marie Antoinette Barrette was born Oct. 11, 1938, in Eastman. She was the daughter of Roland and Emma (Phillips) Barrette. 

She received her education in Prairie du Chien, graduating with the class of 1957. On June 21, 1958, she was united in marriage to Stanley Jenson at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Marie worked as a nurse’s aid, at McGregor Loudspeaker and 3M in Prairie du Chien.

Ruth A. Mundt

Ruth A. Mundt, 79, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health Care. 

She was born Feb 13, 1940, in Richland County, the daughter of Clifford and Leona (Chitwood) Fry. 

Ruth graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and later received her Bachelor’s of Nursing from the University of Dubuque. She married Kelly Mundt on Dec 5, 1964, in Richland Center. 

Kelly preceded her in death on June 1, 2010.
