Sonya Fay Stagman

Sonya Fay Stagman, 58, of Farmersburg, Iowa, died Friday, July 26, 2019, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. 

Sonya Fay was born July 23, 1961, to Clark and Sandra (Cota) Roeder in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She graduated from Central High School. She was united in marriage with Rodney Stagman on June 29, 1991, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, Iowa. Throughout the years, she worked for Monona Wire for 20 years, part-time with Service Guard, packaged cheese for Swiss Valley in St. Olaf and worked at Fluorescent Light in Monona. Sonya was also the director of the Farmers Market in Monona and sold Avon. She enjoyed helping at the church, quilting, knitting, fishing and baking.

Henriette Schmidt

Henriette Schmidt entered into eternal rest on June 13, 2019. 

Henri, as she was always called, was born in Prairie du Chien, to Paul H. and Julia Paris Schmidt. She attended Carroll College prior to moving to San Antonio, Texas in 1972. For many years, she was the Office Manager for E.W. Gill Oil and Gas Properties Inc., and later was employed by Guide Dogs of Texas and Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal. A consummate hostess and gourmet cook, Henri loved planning dinner parties and entertaining. She treasured her friends and her dogs. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul (Woody) Schmidt and his wife Liz; and sister, Charlotte.

Sandra L. Lessard, 75, a long time Prairie du Chien resident, passed away peacefully at home Friday, July 26, 2019 with her loved ones by her side. 

Born on July 4 of 1944 (Our Little Firecracker) in San Francisco, Calif., Sandra graduated from Balboa High School.

Marsha L. Bickel, 70, of McGregor, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, following a courageous battle with endometrial cancer. 

She was born on Aug 26, 1948 to Burton Irving Sr. and Lorraine Violet (Schott) Walters in McGregor.

Charles H. Altepeter

Charles H. Altepeter, 86, of Clearwater, Fla. and formerly of Prairie du Chien, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family. 

He was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Virgil, Ill., the son of Joseph and Adele (Zang) Altepeter. 

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Helen Anderson on Feb. 4, 1956, at St. Patrick’s Church in St. Charles, Ill. Charles worked at Howell’s Furniture and later owned and operated Ray’s Evergreen in St. Charles. 

Helen preceded him in death on Oct. 20, 2005.

Betty J. Langdon

Betty J. Langdon, 62, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Orchard Manor Care Center in Lancaster, following an extended illness. 

She was born May 15, 1957, in Racine, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Pasquale) Bouzek. 

She married David Langdon on March 21, 1981, in Racine. Betty worked as a nursing assistant and later for Check King in Prairie du Chien. 

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, David of Prairie du Chien; her children, Henry (Kim) of Prairie du Chien, Brian of Verona, and Gina (Aron) Darragh of Wauzeka; her brother Thomas (Diane) Bouzek of Prairie du Chien; her sister Catherine “Kitty” (James) Stacy of Verona; and nine grandchildren.

Rodney M. “Ram Rod” Williams, 51, of Platteville, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at his home of natural causes. 

Rodney was born on Feb. 15, 1968, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Ronald “Ron” and Brenda (Swab) Williams.

Jeannine I. Schreck

Jeannine I. Schreck, 85, of Prairie du Chien, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.  

She was born April 8, 1934, in Seneca, the daughter of Jewel and Gertrude (Gonier) Larmore. She married Charles Schreck on June 30, 1952, in Seneca. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2014. She worked as a client service agent for Crawford County for many years.

Jeannine is survived by her daughters, Renee (Kent) Salmon, of Ferryville, Robin (Dennis) Boland, of Reedsburg,  Susan Boland, of Seneca, Lill Schreck, of La Crosse, and Ellie (Tom) Ray, of Steuben; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Dick Boland; her brother, Norman, and a sister, Donna.

Alice M. Simmons

Alice M. Simmons, 74, of Prairie du Chien, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 28, 2019, at the Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. 

She was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Mt. Horeb, the daughter of Robert and Loretta (Powers) Helmenstein. 

She married William Simmons on July 11, 1964, in Cadillac, Mich. Bill preceded her in death on Dec .1, 2010. Alice worked as a beautician, owning and operating Alice’s Hair Care in Prairie du Chien. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed painting portraits and landscapes.

Robert H. Trautsch

Robert H. Trautsch, 79, of Eastman, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, from injuries sustained in an accident on July 4. 

He was born March 10, 1940, the son of Harry and Edna (Seymour) Trautsch. 

He served in the U.S. Army and later in the Army National Guard. He married Elizabeth Andrew on July 31, 1965, at the La Farge Methodist Church. Bob farmed in the Eastman area and owned and operated Bob’s Place in Eastman. He was a past Tavern League president. He later owned T.F. Agri-Service in Seneca. Bob also worked as a seed dealer for Munson Hybrids, which would become Cornelius Hybrids. He was an active member of the Eastman community and will be sadly missed by all.
