Kim Reuel Shearer, 70, of Elkader, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2022. A memorial visitation will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, with a celebration of life service beginning at 3 p.m., at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids.

Alan E. Philbrook

Alan Edward Philbrook, 59, of Gunder, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, after a battle with cancer. He was born on Oct. 14, 1962, in Quincy, Ill., the son of Herbert and Mildred (Moser) Philbrook. Alan was raised and educated in Guttenberg and was a 1981 graduate of Guttenberg High School.

Ila Mae Mueller

Ila Mae Mueller, 85, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, at Great River Care Center in McGregor. Mae was born on Feb. 18, 1937. She was the youngest of four children born to Esther (Bahls) and Elmer Hoth. She was raised on a farm and had many memorable experiences of country life as a child. She attended Hanover Country School and Garnavillo Public School.

Patricia Wolter, 74, of Saint Olaf, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022. She was born on Dec. 13, 1947, in Dyersville, the daughter of Elmer and Alma (Reis) Brunsmann.

Daniel A. Dennler

Daniel Austin Dennler was born Aug. 27, 1963, in West Union, the son of William and Barbara (Rainey) Dennler. Dan was raised on a dairy farm outside Elgin, on Hwy. 56. He graduated from Valley Community High School in Elgin. Dan’s career as a meat cutter was something he was proud of and enjoyed. His last employment was at Sam’s Club in Waterloo. On May 26, 1990, he married Dee Alshouse in Cedar Falls. They welcomed a daughter, Katelyn, in 1991. They later divorced but still remained close friends.

Diane B. Christenson

Diane Barbara Dickman Christenson, 82, died Monday, Aug. 15, at her home in Monona. Diane was born Sept. 5, 1939, in Monona, baptized Oct. 1, 1939, and confirmed May 21, 1953. All of Diane’s church acts were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. She graduated from MFL High School in 1957. During her high school years, she loved playing basketball and received honors in tennis and softball. After graduation, she packed her bags and moved to Minneapolis. She got a job as a secretary for an insurance company then soon after met her husband of 32 years, Jimmie D. Christenson.

Mark T. Schmidt

Mark Thomas Schmidt, a gentlemen, a scholar, and for many, a state of mind. He was called onward to the universe on May 18, 2022, where he was last known to be in the mountains and forest that he loved most. Mark showed up fashionably early on May 14, 1989. It was Mother’s Day and was thus declared the greatest Mother’s Day gift to his parents, Mary and Tom Schmidt, until the anesthesia wore off. Much to the chagrin of his two older brothers, who quickly realized none of their gifts could top his entrance into the world.

Maureen Bergan, 80, died peacefully, with family at her side, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, from the effects of more than 30 years of living with rheumatoid arthritis. She faced every hardship in her journey with optimism, humor, positivity and a radiant smile.

Susan E. Weller

Susan Eln Weller passed away peacefully on June 12, 2022. She was with her immediate family in San Diego, Calif. Susan was born Nov. 29, 1943, in Perry. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1962. She worked as an administrator at University of Iowa Hospital. In 1973, she moved to San Diego with her husband Terry and sons, Ted and Brian, resuming her career in hospital administration. She and Terry lived in San Diego until 1987. From 1987 to 2005, Susan and Terry lived in Detroit, Cleveland, Dallas, San Francisco etc., while establishing a part-time residence at the Weller family farm in National.
