$500,000 grant for city sewer project

The City of Guttenberg received word last week that it was awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Iowa Economic Authority. 

The money will be used to fund sanitary sewer improvements. Total cost of the local project is estimated at $1.4 million.

The 38th annual Northeast Iowa Farm and Antique Association Plagman Barn Show Days  will be held on Sept. 20, 21 and 22. Plagman Barn is located at 28384 Garber Road (C7X) 10 miles west of Guttenberg or two miles east of Garber.

Big Blue Sky and Relay of Voices provided the musical and theatrical entertainment for area residents on Saturday, Aug. 10. The event was held in Ingleside Park on the south marina overlook platform, in conjunction with the community's annual Celebrate Guttenberg event. The stage was set under a canopy of shade trees with blue skies overhead with the Mississippi River as a backdrop.

School board moves forward on athletic trainer agreement

The Clayton Ridge Community School District board at its regular monthly meeting on Aug. 21  approved negotiation of an agreement with Guttenberg Municipal Hospital and Clinics for athletic trainer services.

The board made the decision following a presentation by Amy Sitzman and Sydney Pirillo from the hospital regarding the scope of services and costs. The board authorized Superintendent Shane Wahls to negotiate a contract with GMHC for an amount not to exceed $6,500 with preferred services to include all home varsity events, home junior varsity football games and one weekly visit.

Filing now open...City and school elections coming up

This year Iowa residents will see a change in the timing of school board elections. Previously those elections were held in September; going forward school elections will coincide with municipal elections, which will take place this year on Tuesday, Nov. 5. 

Filing opened Aug. 26 for those seeking municipal or school board seats. The last date to file is Thursday, Sept. 19.
