Chamber of Commerce banquet set for Monday, Jan. 20

The Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce annual banquet and membership meeting will be Monday, Jan. 20, at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club.  

"The annual banquet is held each January for Chamber members to gather and discuss Chamber events, activities, and projects for the past and upcoming year," said Chamber Director Mandy Ludovissy. "All Guttenberg Chamber members are invited and encouraged to attend the annual meeting, and anyone interested in knowing more about the Guttenberg Chamber is welcome to attend."

From their comfortable apartment in the Eagle Ridge Independent and Assisted Living complex, Eldora and Duwane Duwe cordially shared their memories of a lifetime spent in and around the Guttenberg area.  

The couple has been married for 74 years, and has been sharing their lives with one another since their high school days.

Garber man dies following crash

Logan Pritchard, 21, of Garber died Monday, Dec. 30, following a one-vehicle accident in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 22. 

According to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, a report was received at 2:19 a.m. of a one-vehicle rollover on Colesburg Road about 1½ miles north of Colesburg.

Jim McGuire, son of Leon and Valeria McGuire, was born Aug. 29, 1936. He grew up approximately five miles north of Guttenberg, on what is now known as the Pattison farm, on the Great River Road with his brother, Jerry, and sister, Phyllis.

School board hears presentation by food service representatives

The Clayton Ridge Community School board met in regular session on Dec. 12 at the high school library in Guttenberg.

President John Heying and board members Kathy Ihde, Ellen Johnson, Mike Finnegan, Alicia Helle and Jason Reimer were in  attendance.  Also present were Superintendent Shane Wahls, Principal Laura Bilden, Dean of Students Wade Marlow, Board Secretary Dave Schlueter, Iowa Virtual Academy Head of Schools Steve Hoff, Iowa State Education Association representative Kevin McDermott and eight faculty and staff members.
