Central Class of 2016 - Jansen, Moyna are top graduates

The Central Class of 2016 will have two valedictorians. Jacob Jansen and Carissa Moyna will both graduate with 4.0 grade point averages.

It has been a Register tradition to feature the top graduating seniors. Here are the answers Jacob and Carissa gave to our questions.

This week, our profile looks at the two Democrats entered in the Clayton County Board of Supervisors’ race. There are six candidates for the single seat being vacated by Larry Gibbs, who is not running for re-election. Two more candidates are profiled here; the remaining two will be featured in our June 1 edition.

Display at Carter House - Students share Civil War project

Central students will take a short road trip this week in order to share their work in a special setting. The students, all sophomores, will set up display boards Thursday at the Carter House Museum that will feature their research on the Civil War. The Carter House, built by pioneer brothers Ernest and Henry Carter, was completed about a decade before war broke out.

TAX REBATE FOR LOCAL COMPANY

The Elkader City Council last week approved a resolution that will help a local company expand its labor force. Mobile Track Solutions will receive a 24 percent property tax rebate over 10 years (equal to $240,628), as part of a local match to the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s High Quality Jobs program. MTS plans to add 30 new jobs and invest more than $5.1 million in a new facility in Elkader.
