At about 11:30 a.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 61 near Enterprise Drive. Fabian Hurley, 54 of Prairie du Chien, was also traveling northbound on Highway 61 in his 2005 Ford F150, behind Martin's vehicle. As Martin was slowing to make a left-hand turn and waiting for oncoming traffic to pass, Hurley was looking down to put out a cigarette. Kristen Hanson and Vince Weber, two of Bridget’s classmates and active members of the military, appropriately raised the American Flag that now flies in her honor at the new Bluff View sports complex.

Just as Bridget Achenbach bestowed her genuine friendship upon nearly every person she met, her classmates in the Prairie du Chien Class of 2014 started the Live Like Bridget Memorial Fund to establish mementos that will forever share the late teenager’s graces with the communities she loved.

At the young age of 19, Bridget died in a May 2015 car accident just a few miles from her rural Eastman home. Through their mourning, Bridget’s friends and family have found comfort in celebrating her spunky nature and diverse purposes in life.

“When you talk to some of her friends, it just blows my mind how she was so many things to so many people,” her mom, Jane, said. “She could spark a conversation with anyone she would meet and make them feel as if they were a great person. She could be a friend to anyone. She always included everyone.”

Driver cited for failure to report accident

On Saturday, Nov. 26, at 5:59 a.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a one-vehicle crash on Highway 133 near Holly Road in Bloomington Township. It was reported that no one was around the crash scene.

Deputies arrived to find that a 2014 GMC Sierra appeared to have been northbound on Highway 133 and struck the end of a guardrail on the east side of the highway. It appeared that the truck then crossed the center line, left the road on the west side, struck a barbed wire fence and traveled down an embankment before coming to a stop in a creek bottom. The truck received moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

A registration check on the truck showed the owner to be Beau Ploessl, 26, of Cassville. Deputies were unable to locate anybody at the scene of the crash and efforts to make contact with Ploessl that day were unsuccessful.
