4-year-old dies in fall from moving pickup

A 4-year-old has died after falling from a moving pickup truck in Woodman Township the evening of May 4.

According to Grant County Sheriff Nate Dreckman, at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jason Wachter, 45, of Woodman, was traveling between farms, going east on County Highway C, approaching the intersection of Highway 133, in his 2003 Ford F450. Kage Wachter, 4, was sitting next to the passenger door, when the door opened and he fell from the truck, the sheriff’s report said.

Kage was struck by the rear tires and became unresponsive. Jason and another passerby began CPR until deputies, EMS, and MedFlight arrived. However, all the lifesaving efforts were unable to revive Kage, Sheriff Dreckman said.

Pattison Sand commissions new tunnel feeder plant to enhance aggregate production

This new tunnel feeder plant was commissioned at Pattison Sand Company in Clayton, Iowa, to improve quality and response time to the company’s customers, while enhancing its aggregate production as a whole. (Submitted photos)

Pattison Sand Company (PSC) is days away from commissioning a $2.2 million tunnel feeder plant to enhance its aggregate production facility in Clayton, Iowa, while improving quality and response time to customers.

The project has been under development for 16 months. The tunnel feeder idea was born from rapid growth in the company’s aggregate and sand business, resulting in hiring 200 new employees. This brought on new challenges, including a shortage of resources caused by the immediate demand for Pattison’s aggregate materials at its multiple transload sites. This project features a 500-ton-per-hour conveying system that allows Pattison to directly load high quality, dolomitic limestone into rail cars without requiring additional material handling, manpower and equipment.
