Marilyn Irene Reimer, 84, of Guttenberg died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at her home at River Living Center.

Due to Covid a celebration of life will be at a later date.

Marilyn was born on March 8, 1936, in Greeley, the daughter of Herman and Rose (Schiltz) Fessler.

Freddie Dale Bush, 72, of Guttenberg, formerly of Colesburg, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

There will be a private family mass and inurnment.

Eunice Marie Walke

Eunice Marie Walke, 103, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg. 

She was born on March 1, 1917, on the family farm just outside of Garber, the daughter of Emil and Malinda (Freitag) Zittergruen. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport. She attended rural school in Volga Township and graduated from Elkport High School in May 1934.

Pickleball courts approved by city council

Guttenberg city officials and other community leaders have recognized the need to create opportunities for healthy living within our community. Studies have shown that physical activity can have a direct impact on our physical and mental health and well-being. Terry Moser, park board member, and his wife, Jane, grew up in Guttenberg. The couple has moved back to the area and is settling into retirement. They addressed city council members via video conferencing on Monday, Dec. 14, requesting approval for the installation of pickleball courts.

Marge (Blaser) Elsinger was born in 1938 on a farmstead along the Wild Rice River in Western Minnesota. She is the middle child of 11 siblings born to Adolf and Laura Blaser. "Most of the children were delivered by my grandmother, Wilhelmina, who attended Omaha School of Midwifery in the late 1890s, after she had children of her own. That was pretty rare at the time," Marge shared.

Joanne M. Clark

On Dec. 20, 2020, Joanne “Joannie” Marguerite (Spang) Clark was taken from us to receive her reward.

Per her wishes there will be no services.

Joanne was born June 28, 1951, in Oelwein to John and Marguerite Spang of Strawberry Point. She attended Strawberry Point school system and graduated from Starmont High School in 1969. “The fun class.”

COVID-19 vaccinations begin at GMHC

Wednesday, Dec. 23, was a historic day at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital and Clinics when vaccinations for COVID-19 began for the staff. The first dose went to Dr. Michele Dikkers, a physician at Cornerstone Family Practice and GMHC who also serves as the chair of the Clayton County Board of Health.

"I did it! I received my COVID-19 vaccine today, and it did not hurt," said Dr. Dikkers. "My Christmas gift for the year. I look forward to 2021 and the time when all of our patients have been vaccinated."

Donors needed for convalescent plasma

The country’s supply of COVID-19 convalescent plasma is depleting amid surging COVID-19 cases across the U.S. With convalescent plasma demand outpacing donations from individuals recovered from COVID-19 by more than 7,000 units in November, the availability of plasma to meet patient need is of increasing concern. Convalescent plasma is needed to ensure health care providers have all the treatment options available for patients battling COVID-19.
