Rosemary Theresa Matt, 86, of Garnavillo, died Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg where the family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Monday, March 26. Scripture service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

James Albert Horstman, 76, of Davenport, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Visitation was Monday, March 12, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Colesburg, conducted by Rev. John Haugen.

Swim pool bond issue passes


Supporters of the Wave of the Future campaign gathered on Tuesday night to celebrate the passing of a bond referendum. Votes were overwhelmingly in favor of funding a new swimming pool for Guttenberg. In a special election on March 6, Guttenberg voters approved a measure to issue bonds in an amount not to exceed $2.8 million to help finance a new swimming pool.

Unofficial results as announced by Clayton County Auditor Jennifer Garms showed 300 votes in favor and 44 opposed, for 79% voter approval. Voter turn-out was low, at only 26% of all registered eligible voters.

A family inurnment will be at a later date in the Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Eugene H. Hafner, 96, of Birmingham, Ala., passed away on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at his residence.

Visitation was Saturday, March 3, at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home, Birmingham, Ala., followed by a celebration of life service.

Eugene was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Elkport.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.
