Kenneth O. Bauer Sr.

Kenneth O. Bauer Sr., 71, of Sherrill died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 peacefully at his home.

Visitation was Friday, Sept. 28, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, Dubuque.

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 29, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sherrill.

Clayton Ridge School board news

The Clayton Ridge School board heard updates on the building project, received reports from administrators, and approved hirings and a resignation when members met in regular session on Sept. 13 at the high school library.

President John Heying called the meeting to order with members Christine Aulwes, Ellen Johnson, Kathy Ihde, Alicia Helle and Mike Finnegan on hand. 

An update on the current building project was given by three representatives from Estes Construction.

A busy season at the Lockmaster House Museum

The Lockmaster's House Heritage Museum, located on the grounds of Lock and Dam 10, each year attracts many visitors to Guttenberg to view displays and artifacts of river and community history.

The museum is operated by the Guttenberg Heritage Society, and this past year saw a change in leadership. Ray Black, chairman, now heads nearly a dozen volunteers who greet visitors, raise funds, create exhibits and accomplish other work that supports the museum's mission.

Steve "Coos" Rosacker, 56, of Guttenberg died Sept. 18, 2018, playing the game he loved most, at the Mystique Ice Arena, Dubuque.

Visitation will be held at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg on Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 4-7 p.m. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Bert Joseph Elledge, 89, of Edgewood, died on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. 

Private family service with be held at a later date.

Final resting place will be at Hansel Cemetery, Garber.

Rachel M. Hoth, 97, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 20, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Hillary Burns Kite. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at National Cemetery, National.

An Aug. 14th headline on the front page of the Des Moines Register stated “Iowa infrastructure makes ‘worst’ list." The article noted that, according to the U. S. Department of Transportation, about 20 percent of Iowa’s 24,215 bridges are deemed “structurally deficient.”

City council revisits food truck ordinance, considers pool change

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on  Monday, Sept. 10, again discussed an ordinance concerning mobile food vendors, heard a design change request for the new pool bathhouse, and approved a raise for the city manager.

Ivan Ewald Hardt, 86 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital.

A service will be held at a later date at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.

Interment will be at the Garnavillo Cemetery.

Nicholas John Westhoff, 32, of Guttenberg, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at home surrounded by his family.

Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 2, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.
