David Franklin Wilson, died Nov. 13, 2018, in Portland, Ore.

A memorial service was Friday, Dec. 7, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland, Ore.

David was born on Dec. 7, 1936, in Millville, to Beulah (Grimes) and Richard "Bob" Wilson. He was delivered by his physician grandfather, who traveled 12 miles through snow by a horse-drawn sleigh.

Larry was born on Oct. 25, 1970, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., the son of Richard and Francis Pritchard.

Robert Richard Sheber, age 77, of Guttenberg, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2018.

Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 30, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Harold McMillin. Visitation was before services at the funeral home.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Chris Anderson: A new face in town


Local artist and sculptor Chris Anderson displays an example of one of his clam shell bonsai trees and a selection of pearl button jewelry he creates out of discarded shells and buttons he finds along the banks of the Missipppi River from the former Pearl Button Factory. The historic pearl button factory industry is receiving new recognition, thanks to artist and sculptor Chris Anderson. 

Chris moved to Guttenberg from Muscatine in the fall of 2018 to assist his mother, Holly Anderson.

5C Coalition awarded grant to prevent youth substance abuse

The Clayton County Community Collaboration Council (5C Coalition) has received a Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program grant to prevent youth substance use, including prescription drugs, marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol.  

The DFC program, created by the DFC Act of 1997 is the Nation’s leading effort to mobilize communities to prevent youth substance use and is directed by the Office of the National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).

The journey of Clayton County's Freedom Rock


A Freedom Rock arrived in Guttenberg on Nov. 21 and was placed at Limbeck (Horseshoe) Pond. It will be painted with a patriotic scene in July 2019. In the fall of 2015, area veteran Stan Blair of Guttenberg approached artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen inquiring about the placement of a Freedom Rock® in Clayton County.

Maria Denea (Price) Richardson, 50, of Gutenberg formerly of Duluth, Minn., passed Friday, Nov. 16, 2018.

Visitation was Monday, Nov. 26, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Maria was born to Donald V. Price and Lavonda Sue (Eder) Meyer on Dec. 23, 1967.
