Bernita Ina Thein Brady, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at her home at The Villages Cooperative.

At Bernita’s request, there will be no funeral service. Memorials may be directed to Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, 9000 C Ave NE, Marion, IA 52302. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mobile food truck ordinance receives final city council approval

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on Feb. 11 gave final approval to a mobile food truck ordinance, a topic that has occupied council attention since it was first introduced last May.

Mayor Bill Frommelt led councilmembers Mick Pierce, Austin Greve, Fred Schaub, Virginia Saeugling and Jane Parker through the evening's agenda. Also present at the council table were City Manager Denise Schneider and City Attorney Michael Schuster.

Arlene R. Handke, 81, of Waukon, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating.

Norbert Lee Butikofer died peacefully at the Elkader Care Center on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019.

Visitation was Feb. 5, at Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport and one hour before service.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, conducted by Rev. Margaret Yackel-Juleen.

Bernice L. Schlueter, 94, of Ryan, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester.

Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ryan. Funeral services followed the visitation conducted by Rev. Gabriel Anderson.

Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.

Modest farm value loss in 2018

After a reprieve in 2017, commodity prices, interest rates and trade disruptions drove Iowa farmland values down for the fourth time in five years. The average statewide value of an acre of farmland is now estimated to be $7,264. This represents a decrease of 0.8 percent, or $62 per acre, from the 2017 estimate.
