PACC (Parkinson's Awareness of Clayton County) is making plans to hold its fourth annual Parkinson's Awareness Walk and 9-hole best-shot golf outing. The event is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Guttenberg Golf & Country Club located at 28126 Highway 52.

Frances “Fran” Troester

Frances “Fran” Troester, 76, of Guttenberg died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg. 

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries. Visitation was before services at the church. 

Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Jeff Friedlein and his father, Larry, will share their collection of approximately 40 restored Oliver tractors. The impressive assemblage will be on display on the east end of Lower Cedar Road at the intersection of Kale and Lower Cedar Roads on  Saturday, Sept. 21, and Sunday, Sept. 22.

Council moves forward on proposed downtown property development

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 9 approved a zoning change that would facilitate a proposed property development in downtown Guttenberg, accepted the donation of a portion of ponds along the highway, and considered numerous property matters.

LaDean Fischer

LaDean Fischer, 78, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at Mercy One in Dubuque.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 9, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at Bethel Cemetery.

$500,000 grant for city sewer project

The City of Guttenberg received word last week that it was awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Iowa Economic Authority. 

The money will be used to fund sanitary sewer improvements. Total cost of the local project is estimated at $1.4 million.

The 38th annual Northeast Iowa Farm and Antique Association Plagman Barn Show Days  will be held on Sept. 20, 21 and 22. Plagman Barn is located at 28384 Garber Road (C7X) 10 miles west of Guttenberg or two miles east of Garber.
