Guttenberg resident and retired Iowa Department of Natural Resource Conservation Officer Stan Blair is a 36-year member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the AMVETS. He was drafted in the Army, then enlisted in the Navy and served during the Vietnam War.

Clayton County voters chose city and school officials in an election held Tuesday, Nov. 5. This marked the first time Iowa’s city and school elections were combined — traditionally, school elections took place in September and city elections in November.

Veterans Day program set for Nov. 11 at CR School in Guttenberg

The public is invited to honor military veterans of all eras and branches on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Clayton Ridge High School gym in Guttenberg. 

The program will open with a color guard  made up of members of the local American Legion, Amvets and VFW posts. Clay-Gar American Legion Post of Garnavillo will present a POW/MIA ceremony. The pledge of allegiance will be led by the VFW Patriot's Pen essay contest winners.

Barbara Kann Leitgen grew up surrounded by retail business. Her parents, Juanita and Carl Kann, established Kann's Import Shop, which she now calls her own, in 1947.

Her friendly personality, unique brand of merchandise and warm welcoming shop are a mainstay in Guttenberg's downtown business district. In a cozy corner of the Import Shop she shared her memories of growing up in Guttenberg.

"The Stephen Ministry's principal belief is that we are the caregiver and God is the cure-giver." 

Minister and clinical psychologist Rev. Kenneth C. Haugk founded the ministry in 1975. The organization is named for Saint Stephen, one of seven deacons appointed by the Apostles to distribute food and charitable aid to poorer members of the community in the early church.

Deborah “Deb” Sue Morehouse, of Guttenberg, (formerly of Manchester) passed away on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg. 

Memorial services will be Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, conducted by Reverend Mary Green. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be at Fairvew Cemetery, Earlville.

Joan B. Pasker, 86, of Dyersville and formerly of New Vienna, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville.

Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville and before services at the funeral home on Monday.

Fredrick T. “Tom” Reimer

Fredrick T. Reimer “Tom” of Guttenberg, passed away of cancer complications at 66 years old on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, surrounded by family.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg. Visitation was before services at the church.

A celebration of life was held at Lakeside Ballroom following the service.

Bernice Loraine Haas, 93, of Garber, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before service at the church. 

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.
