Prairie du Chien Culver’s to close for a month during remodel

Nearly every aspect of Culver's will see a facelift, including the drive-thru for the restaurant, where the overhang and pillars will be replaced by a simpler awning. Along with increased parking space, the flow of the drive-thru will also improve.

Culver’s Restaurant in Prairie du Chien is being completely remodeled. The exterior will have an all-new image, while the interior will be gutted from the menu board through the front of the dining room, and an additional 1,600 square feet will be added. Seating will increase from 98-120 capacity, depending on the season, to 130-200 with the expansion.

Construction began a couple weeks ago. Through most of the rebranding activity, Culver’s will remain open to the public. However, it will close for about a month right after Easter, in April, before reopening, hopefully, by the first week in May.

Former Public Health Head Nurse charged with two counts regarding the dispensing of prescription drugs

The November terminations of two Crawford County Public Health nurses has taken another twist. 

Former Head Nurse Gloria Wall, 69, was charged in Crawford County Circuit Court on Feb. 13, with one count of dispensing a prescription drug without a practitioner’s order, and one count of possession of an illegally obtained prescription. 

Both counts are misdemeanors. Wall faces up to a year in jail and fines totaling $1,000 if convicted of both counts.

According to the criminal complaint, the investigation into Wall began on Oct. 20, 2017, two days after Wall and nurse Judy Powell were escorted out of the Crawford County Administration Building and placed on paid suspension.

Since then, chambers have had to cultivate their niche in the community to provide more than just a knowledgeable welcome.

Antoine’s story, Olympic experience great lesson for youth

You might have to use a creative eye in looking at this collaboration, but the second graders at Bluff View School are proudly displaying the colors of the Olympic rings.

Matt Antoine achieved 11th place in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic skeleton competition last week, certainly making his hometown fans proud. Along the way, the youngest of his fans have also shared in the excitement, learning all about Matt, the sport of skeleton and some Olympic fun facts, too. 

The teachers of the Prairie du Chien school district have found many ways to incorporate these current events into their curriculum, from 4K to second and third grades on up. Two such classes focusing on Olympic units have been Mrs. Megan Copsey’s 4K at B.A. Kennedy elementary and the entire second grade at Bluff View elementary.

gymnastics meet

Prairie du Chien hosted the Southwest Wisconsin Conference Gymnastics Meet on Friday night in the Bluff View gymnasium.

Southwestern-Cuba City won the meet with 130.125 team points. Dodgeville-Mineral Point had 128.7, Platteville Co-op 125.675, River Valley 114.8 and Prairie du Chien-Fennimore 106.35.

Wheeler earns 

trip to State Wrestling Meet

Ben Wheeler of River Ridge-Cassville earned a trip to the WIAA Division 3 State Wrestling Tournament to be held at the Kohl Center in Madison on Feb. 22-24. It is the 75th annual State Wrestling Tournament.

Wheeler, a senior with a record of 30-9 this season, finished third in the 285-pound weight class by pinning sophomore Leif Bredeson (19-17) of Darlington-Black Hawk in 1:28 in the third-place match at the Mineral Point Sectional on Saturday.

Prairie Wrestlers Statebound

Prairie du Chien state qualifiers Colten Wall, Matt Rogge, Blake Garcia, Traeton Saint, Nick Rogge and Stephen Ronnfeldt will be representing PDC wrestling at the Kohl Center starting Thursday evening at 7 p.m.

Blake Garcia works hard in controlling his Monroe opponent. Garcia would win by major decision, 9-0.

Nick Rogge dominates his Wisconsin Dells opponent with a double arm bar in his quarterfinal match. Nick would win by major decision, 11-0. In the finals, Nick would beat Max Barreau of Lodi 6-1 for a sectional championship.

Blackhawks qualify six for State Wrestling Tournament

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawk wrestling team once again continued to make history. This time, by advancing six individuals to the State Tournament to be held in the Kohl Center in Madison from Feb. 22-24.

Richland Center was the host of a WIAA Division 2 Sectional on Saturday, Feb. 17. Traeton Saint and Stephen Ronnfeldt will be making return trips to state, with a few teammates joining them. The top three finishers in each weight division earned trips to the state meet.
