Kilbourne Claude ‘KC’ Johnson, 93, passed away peacefully on Sept. 13, in Alexander City, Alabama. Originally from Wisconsin, and a longtime resident of Prairie du Chien, he was the son of Frieda and Claude Johnson, of Prairie du Chien, and brother to Leslie (Viola) and Gaylord Johnson. His passing was preceded by his parents and brothers. 

KC was married to the late Dorothy Elizabeth (Liz) Rhoden of Huntsville, Ala., on Dec. 8, 1945. They had five children: Shirley Minchk (deceased 2008) (Thomas) of Wisconsin, Terry Johnson (Chien) of California, Lynda Schwanz (Michael) of Wisconsin, John Johnson of New York, and Jacqueline Dean (Richard) of Alabama. He departed leaving a legacy of 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

On Thursday, Sept. 14, at 2:20 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a one-vehicle traffic crash on East Third Street at Talbot Street in the village of Wauzeka.

A 2014 International semi operated by Luke C. Kilmer, 21, Stoddard, struck a low hanging line from an overhead power pole. Kilmer and his passenger, Jeremy J. Hershey, 40, La Crosse, were eastbound on East Third Street when the trailer on the semi got hooked on a low hanging phone cable. The cable hooked onto the trailer as they were driving which caused the light pole to fall on top of the semi. Live power lines were then lying near the top of the semi and trailer. The semi was leaving from a delivery at the Wauzeka-Steuben School. 

Lloyd E. Snodgrass, 83, of Boscobel, passed away at his home, surrounded by family, on Friday, Sept. 14. He lived and farmed in the Boscobel area most of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Snodgrass, of Boscobel; a daughter, Betty Snodgrass, of Prairie du Chien; a son, Ethan (Ramona) Kord of Boscobel; six grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren; nine brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons, Leroy and Steven; a son, Ralph; a brother in infancy; two sisters-in-law, June Copus and Belva Copus, also his father and mother in-law.

A number of deserving businesses, individuals and civic organizations were honored at the Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation Sept. 13, at the Prairie du Chien Country Club.

Mississippi Meats was named Business of the Year, at the Prairie du Chien Country Club. Carl Colsch and Chris Herbst opened the specialty meat and grocery store at Blackhawk Junction in January 2017. They felt the community was the perfect, friendly, small town and tourist destination in which to do so. Both had experience in running a meat distribution company and also working in grocery stores for years. The store has only grown and continues to deliver great products coupled with top-notch customer service. It has become a staple in Prairie du Chien’s business community.
