General election still on as scheduled for April 7

In the midst of the Coronavirus crisis is Tuesday’s spring general election.

State and local officials have been emphasizing, instead of going to the polls, voting by absentee ballot. Voters can request absentee ballots at myvote.wi.gov.

Confirmed case reported in Crawford County

Crawford County Public Health announced Tuesday, March 31, that there was one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Crawford County. It is in an individual between the ages of 41-60 who has had no travel or contact with a positive case, so the person is considered infected through community spread. This person has been isolated at home since being tested for COVID-19.

Photography project captures quarantining families on front step


The Read family from Wauzeka was among the many who participated in Kaci George’s Front Step Project.

Kaci George, along with her sons Kian and Kohyn, presented a donation of $600 from her Front Step (family photography) Project to the Wauzeka Fire Department last week. They are pictured with Doug Berger, Brady Krachey and Chief Nick Zeeh.

Joan R. Williams

Joan R. Williams, 82, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020, at her residence. 

She was born on June 14, 1937, in La Crosse, the daughter of James and Eleanor (Crowley) Ingham.  Joan married James Williams from Harpers Ferry, Iowa, in 1979. He later passed in July of 2003. Joan loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with ferocity all her own.

Mary Kay Roessler

Mary Kay Roessler, 71, of Cross Plains, formerly of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020, at her home in Cross Plains. 

She was born July 22, 1948, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Burdette and Mary (Brendemuehl) Yager. She married Charles Roessler, who later preceded her in death. She worked as a baker for many years in Prairie du Chien. 

She is survived by her son, Kevin Dodd; her daughter, Robin Dodd Wilson; her brothers, John (Pat) Yager, Thomas Yager, Tracy Yager, and Todd (Leslie) Yager; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wauzeka-Steuben referendum to determine future district operation

The Wauzeka-Steuben School District is prepared for an April 7 referendum vote, asking voters to allow the district to exceed the state revenue limit in order to maintain operating the school for three years.

Cynthia 'Cyndi' Conley

Cynthia J. “Cyndi” Conley, 52, of New London, and formerly of Prairie du Chien, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020, at Thedacare Hospital in Appleton. 

She was born April 6, 1967, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Arthur and Carolyn (Winchel) Conley.
