Top 2 seniors named at River Ridge High School

River Ridge has named its valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 2015. Kari Breuer, daughter of Joe and Cindi Breuer, of Glen Haven, is the valedictorian. Tanner Irish, son of Tom and Lori Irish, of Bagley, is the salutatorian.

Kari Breuer will attend UW-River Falls and major in animal science this fall. She is excited about meeting new people and having new experiences.

As her high school career comes to a close, Kari is proud to have achieved a 3.982 cumulative GPA, made the high honor roll all four years, and scored a 29 on her ACT. She was a National Merit semifinalist as well.

She was active in the Science Club, FFA Chapter as treasurer and National Honor Society as secretary. She also served as track manager for three years and wrestling manager for one year.

Jaxson Orlin Thompson

 

Jaxson Orlin Thompson, nine months old, of Froelich, Iowa, died Saturday, April 25, at Crossing Rivers Health Center in Prairie du Chien. 

Jaxson, the son of Matthew and Brandy (Skaife) Thompson, was born July 14, 2014 Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. Jaxson was a happy, talkative, smiling baby who liked water and music and had the cutest smile.

Lela Doris Koth

 

Lela Doris Koth, 90, passed away April 23, at Brookdale Senior Living Center, in Mc-
Kinney Texas.

Lela Doris Wogahn was born on Dec. 10, 1924, in Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of Henry (Ed) and Doretta (Hasenwinkel) Wogahn. Lela was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia. She attended school in Aurelia and after graduation, worked in Cherokee, Iowa.

Pedaling for Pets


Ashley and Brandon Christensen, pictured with their dog Nibbles, are taking on their own Pedaling for Pets challenge this summer. They will be bicycling 750 miles from Prairie du Chien to the Bayfield area and back, from Aug. 16 to Sept. 6. They have eight checkpoints along the way, where they will stop at animal shelters and humane societies to gain knowledge and spread awareness about Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter. All funds raised from this journey will benefit RABAS and its efforts toward building a local animal shelter.

Pirates in eight

Wauzeka-Steuben edged visiting De Soto 4-3 in eight innings Thursday afternoon in Ridge and Valley baseball action. 

De Soto took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. 

Jeremy Lessard then belted a 2-run homer to left in the bottom of the fourth to give Wauzeka-Steuben a 2-1 lead.

Donald M. Wachter, 88, of Prairie du Chien passed away Thursday, April 23, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

Dale L. Braudt

 

Dale L. Braudt, 78, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, April 20, at his home. 

He was born on Jan. 10, 1937, at Brodtville in Wyalusing Township, the son of Louis and Lela (Ariss) Braudt. Dale graduated from Patch Grove High School. On Oct. 6, 1961, he married Betty A. Campbell at the Lutheran Parsonage in Prairie du Chien. He was employed at Hermsen’s Ace Hardware in Bloomington for many years as an electrician. Dale was a member of the Bloomington Fire Department for over forty years and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Prairie du Chien. In his younger days, Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing.

The Bridges of Crawford County


The above photo shows cracking on a bridge on County U in the town of Clayton. Highway Commissioner Dennis Pelock told the county board that the walls of the bridge have moved in an inch. This is not one of the four to be worked on this year, but it is one of 17 that will need to be reconstructed in the coming years and illustrates the problem that the county is facing.
