Letters to Santa - All I want for Christmas. . . .

There were many Santa sightings in Elkader throughout the holiday season. One of the most recent was Santa’s visit to FreedomBank, which is where Sadey Arnold, daughter of Trevor and Rachel Arnold, Elkader, found him.

For several years, the Register’s holiday tradition has been to share letters to Santa written by young Central students. This year, students in the three combined second/third grade classes participated. Their letters are published here just as we received them. We made no attempt to edit, correct or censor.

We hope you enjoy these letters as much as we did. Many thanks to the students and their teachers for continuing this tradition.

Picture this: In 1895, when Elkader was still a young town with just a handful of retail shops, a well-known cabinetmaker relocated here from Garnavillo. He and his partner built a structure on Main Street, which locals called the Regan and Witt Building after the two men who built it—William E. Witt, the cabinetmaker, and Mr. Regan, his partner.
