Marion Elizabeth Moses, 84, of Garnavillo, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at MercyOne Elkader Medical Center after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma (brain cancer).

She was born on Dec. 25, 1936, the daughter of Leander (Tommy) and Anna (Berns) Stroschein. Marion received her education and graduated from the St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Garnavillo. On Sept. 5, 1957, Marion was united in marriage with Darwin Moses at St. Joseph’s Church in Garnavillo. Together, the couple owned and operated the Kist Bottling Company where Marion was known as the “Pop Lady.” Marion also worked as a line server at the casino in Marquette. Marion was compassionately religious in her faith. She was a longtime member of the St. Joseph Rosary Society. She enjoyed her flowers, playing cards, old country music, dancing, canning tomatoes and freezing sweet corn (she could cut corn off the cob like a machine). Marion had a great deal of spunk. She was a snazzy dresser, had a heart of gold and a smile that would bring happiness to everyone she met. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Marion was received by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, leaving behind her three children, Rick (Brenda) Moses of Garnavillo, Ann Schmidt of Farmersburg and Bob Moses of McGregor; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Courtney) Moses of Center Point, Jill (Justin) Tangeman of Bellevue, Neb., Molly Moses of Cedar Rapids, Ethan Moses of Cedar Rapids, Elliott Moses of West Des Moines, Kyle Schmidt of Farmersburg and Chris (Kayla) Schmidt of Farmersburg; seven great-grandchildren and one due in July.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darwin in 2013; mother- and father-in-law, Marie and Lawrence Moses; son-in-law, Terry Schmidt; two sisters, Elaine Troester and Karen Shaw.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 001 S. Industrial Park Rd., Garnavillo, Iowa. There will not be a public visitation. There was a funeral service on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo, Iowa, where everyone is welcome to attend. For all those who plan to attend the funeral, everyone will be required to wear a mask. There will be no public viewing or greeting of the family per current COVID-19 guidelines. Interment was at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Monona, Iowa. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy, memorials may be sent to either MercyOne Elkader Medical Center or St. Croix Hospice in Strawberry Point.
