Dorothy Rose Eglseder, 93, of Guttenberg, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, at the Guttenberg Care Center. 

Private family graveside services were held. 

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg. 

Dorothy was born on Feb. 22,1927, in Guttenberg, the daughter of Frank and Caroline (Curran) Meyer.

Dorothy graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Guttenberg. On June 16, 1945, she was united in marriage with Howard Eglseder at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. This union blessed the couple with 5 wonderful children. She received her registered nurse degree in 1974 from Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque.

Dorothy was a lifelong prolific reader and passed the love of reading on to her children and grandchildren. She loved reading, painting, genealogy, spoiling her grandchildren, playing Scrabble, gardening, and getting sassy with a glass of beer or two. She was an incredibly strong, knowledgeable woman, with a keen sense of humor, who showed her children how to handle life and themselves. Dorothy was and will forever remain, a treasure.

Dorothy will be forever loved, cherished and missed by her children, David Eglseder of Guttenberg, Diane (Steve) Rowland of Guttenberg, Mary Eglseder of Fort Myers, Fla. and Patty (Phil) Pokorny of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jared (Teresa) Rowland, Shannon Rowland, Shawn (Katie) Eglseder, Jordan (Emily) Pokorny, Erin Pokorny and Nathan Pokorny; six great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Diane Carr of Longmont, Colo., and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Mark; and three siblings, Francis Meyer, Margaret Vorwald and Leo Meyer.
