For those who follow Sheila the Draft on Facebook—and those who may not yet—the beautiful 17-plus-hand Belgian draft mare horse, owned by Shannon and Dustin Ready of Eastman, will ring the Salvation Army bell later this week.

The human-friendly horse will take her place next to the Crawford County Salvation Army’s Red Kettle at Zinkle’s Piggly Wiggly in Prairie du Chien Thursday, Dec. 17, from 8 to 10 a.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. each day.

“I feel this will be a draw for families to come, see this great horse and give back in a safe outdoor area,” said Roby Fuller, local Red Kettle Campaign coordinator. “I’m thankful the Ready family reached out about doing this.”

The hope with this special guest bell ringer is that the community will come out, enjoy the gentle giant and savor a moment with her for the holidays, and also consider putting a donation in the Red Kettle. Donations help support the Crawford County Salvation Army, which provides assistance to local individuals, families and transients in need.

Fuller said there may be some live Facebook feeds on the Sheila the Draft Facebook page for any families unable to come see Sheila in person. Or to donate from a distance, people may contact Fuller at 326-0235.

Follow Sheila the Draft and her loving family on Facebook to learn all about their adventures.
