On Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, Dorothy Elizabeth (Breuer) Mumm, loving wife, mother of 10 and grandmother of many, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96.

Dorothy was born May 6, 1924, to Peter and Mary Breuer in Cassville. She grew up on the family farm with seven siblings: Pete, Rosella, Chris, Julius, Cletus, LaVern and Joe. After her two brothers married two Mumm girls, Dorothy met Donald Paul Mumm and married him Oct. 16, 1945, at St. Charles Church in Cassville. Dorothy and Donald had 10 children: Marilee (Bob Wuensch), Donna (Roger Bark), Mike (Kathy Mumm), Nancy, Jerry “Short,” Marjorie “Margie,” Steve (Dawn Mumm), Cathy (Charlie Martin), John (Deb Mumm) and Mark (Emilie Mumm). Dorothy went by many names—Mother, Dort, Mumm, Grandma, the flower lady and Sister. She loved raising her chickens on the family farm, painting, cross stitching, baking, gardening, the Cubs, the Bears, playing cards, Herefords (Herefordshire cattle), her faith, and chocolate. Dorothy was never without cookies in her freezer and candy in her kitchen drawers for her visitors to enjoy. She wouldn’t let you leave a visit without eating some kind of treat. She looked forward to holiday gatherings with her large family, attending church (praying the rosary throughout the mass), spending time and talking with friends and family, and keeping tabs on her flowers and bird feeders. She was a loving, kind, independent, stubborn, wonderful woman. Dorothy is now with her husband, Donald, watching over her family and friends.

She is survived by in-laws Pete and Delores Kirschbaum and Alvina Mumm; 10 children, 26 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; family friend, Marie Bishell; and many other friends she loved dearly.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Peter and Mary; siblings, Pete, Rosella, Chris, Julius, Cletus, LaVern and Joe; grandchildren, Cindy Mumm, Dan Bark and Chloe Vogt.

Due to COVID-19, a private family service will take place, but a celebration of life service may take place at a later date when we are safe to gather. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home &and Crematory, in Bloomington, is assisting the family.
