Dennis L. Beck
Dennis Lee Beck, 83, of Elkader, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, in the comfort of his home.
Dennis was born Sept. 26, 1937, on the Carl Dietrich Beck farm north of Elkport to Homer and Violet (Duwe) Beck.
He grew to be a student of nature, loving all things the natural world had to offer. His passions were hunting with the longbow and the Native American way of life. His most precious years were spent in childhood on his grandmother’s farm in Miner’s Creek, north of Guttenberg. There he learned to be industrious and cultivated a practical way of life and a can-do attitude which served him well throughout his life. Dad built his own home, planted and harvested a large garden, raised four boys, learned to make his own bows and hunting equipment and served many in his trade of plumbing and heating.
On July 6, 1958, Dennis married Mary Puelz of Garnavillo at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo.
From this union came four sons who inherited many interesting stories of dad’s life and hunting experiences.
Preceding Dennis in death were his parents Homer and Violet and a sister Gwen. Surviving are his wife Mary, sons Mark, David, Paul (Cathy) and Dan (Tina) Beck and a sister Kay Possehl of Alburnett. Dennis was blessed with three grandsons, Brian, Michael (Jade) and Dumitru Beck; and seven great grandsons, Adam, Noah and Gabe Beck, Abram and Ellis Beck and Stefan and Luca Beck.
