Despite the restrictions of COVID-19, the Central Drama Department is entering the final phase of preparation for the fall production—a comedy that will be performed in the LoRene Lenth Auditorium of the school on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

The comedy “Funny Little Thing Called Love” by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten is actually a series of five different love stories connected only by the same magical, romantic full moon. This deliriously funny show is all about that four-letter word: “L-O-V-E.” Under a full moon on this unpredictable night of romance, these rollicking tales take you on an around-the-globe journey of unexpected and hilarious twists and turns.

In one portion, a pair of TV reporters from San Francisco report on this magical, love-producing full moon to find themselves victim to its power.

Then, in Dallas, a slick, successful used-car-selling Romeo believes he can date “exclusively” three different girls, only to realize too late that he’s wandered into a life-changing trap set up by the three Juliets.

On a Hawaiian getaway, the Hallelujah Girls say aloha to their wild sides by crashing a honeymoon in progress.

In a rooftop London bistro, sparks fly when two strangers surprisingly connect only to be frustrated by a hyperactive American tourist who’s determined to be the center of attention.

Finally, in Manhattan, a man tries to overcome a mid-life crisis with an ill-advised and elaborate marriage proposal. Unfortunately, it all goes wildly off track.

During rehearsals, precautions have been taken to keep everyone healthy. Masks are worn and surfaces disinfected. Hand sanitizer and washing hands often is encouraged. Similar precautions will be taken during the performances. As with all activities inside the building, visitors are expected to wear a mask when six feet distance cannot be maintained from other individuals.

The “Funny Little Thing Called Love” cast includes seniors Maci Kluesner, Brenna Buckman, Nichole White and Abby Cummer. Juniors are Sean Wilwert, Alice Gifford, William Moser, Brayden Finley, Jazzy Grau and Brandy Beatty. There is one lone freshman: Makayla Erickson.

Helping out behind the scenes are seniors Anna Hauschild and Karl Gardner, junior Jordan Helgerson and freshmen Beth Wilwert, Erin Dittmer, Leah Reinhart and Kolton Keene.

“The production has not been without its struggles due to the pandemic situation, but we are making the best of a less-than-perfect situation,” said director Carolyn Yanda. Many rehearsals have been a hybrid mix of in-person and online via Zoom. “Nevertheless, the production is coming along nicely and all will be ready to go.”

This is the first performance on stage with the new curtains. These curtains not only look nice, but they add versatility to staging.

So, open your heart to romantic mayhem and come join the fun. By the time the evening is over and the moon works its magic, love will conquer all and your sides will ache from laughter.

“Funny Little Thing Called Love” is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
