Seven pieces of art, each donated by one of The Left Bank Shop and Gallery’s regional artists, are available through the raffle. Funds from the effort will help insure the continued operation of The Left Bank, located in McGregor, through the COVID-19 pandemic. (Photo by Audrey Posten)

There’s less than one week left to purchase “Save the Bank” raffle tickets in support of The Left Bank Shop and Gallery in McGregor. For a small fee, the raffle tickets give buyers an opportunity to win a one-of-a-kind piece of art created by one of The Left Bank’s regional artists.

In addition to a small business government loan and appeals to friends of the art center, the raffle is one way the McGregor-Marquette Center for the Arts (MMCA) Board of Directors is seeking financial help to insure the continued operation of The Left Bank through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The idea came from artist and MMCA board member Debra Hall Moser, who’s based in Garber.

“She knows several artists and talked to them to see if they’d be willing to donate a piece,” said Maureen Wild, gallery director at The Left Bank. “She set up how the raffle would work and hung the whole exhibit. She really wanted to take the worry off the board.”

Seven artists, including Hall Moser herself, donated pieces. Hall Moser’s work, entitled “Full Speed Ahead,” is made of fused glass, while Wisconsin artist Danita Doerre’s “Woodland Trail” is fiber art. There are three paintings: “Outdoor Adventure” from Jillian Webb Herrmann of St. Olaf, “Take Me to the Moon” from Karen Juno of Madison, Wis., and “Where Rivers Meet” from Rabecca Hennessey of Guttenberg. Monona-based Gerald Clymer donated one of his hand-crafted wooden boxes and Harold Rosauer, from Manchester, has offered a wood carved “House Wren.”

“The art is a variety of styles and mediums,” said Wild, “and they are really high quality. These are top-of-the-line artists and they so generously donated these expensive pieces.”

Since the Save the Bank Raffle was announced over the summer, Wild said its received tremendous support, bringing in close to $3,000 so far.

“We’ve gotten people from all over—even someone from Canada—who’ve bought tickets,” she shared. “Some try for every piece and some know the exact piece they want. All the pieces have been popular.”

Raffle tickets can be purchased at The Left Bank, located at 158 Main St., in downtown McGregor, or at the gallery’s online store: leftbankshopandgallery.org.

The online shop is new, and Wild said the raffle has helped draw more people to the website.

“Getting people to the site is always the hardest part,” she remarked.

The raffle drawing, with help from McGregor Mayor Lyle Troester, will be at The Left Bank on Monday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. People can also watch virtually via Facebook Live.

Wild said funds raised are going toward general operation of The Left Bank.

“In the beginning, we had no idea what would happen,” she stated. “We’re a non-profit and our budget is tight, so this has been a much-needed blessing.
